Peggy was born in Nassau, Bahamas and grew up riding her pony on the beach. She graduated Lake Erie College with a BA in Equestrian Studies. She went on to work for Hugh Wiley from 1977 to '82, and then taught the intercollegiate riding team at Lake Erie College from '82 to '84. Upon leaving Lake Erie, Peggy and Sandra started Sanmar Farm and have been working together ever since.
Sandra was born in Puerto Rico and graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Psychology. She began riding at age 14 and has trained under greats such as Carl Knee, Frances Rowe, and Hugh Wiley. In 1979, she rode on the Puerto Rican team in the Pan American games and and again in '93 in the Central American games. Sandra is a member of the USHJA Zone 3 jumper committee and the VHSA Board Member chairman for the Jumper Committee. She has been Chef D'Equipe for Zone 3 Young Riders since 2005. She is a two-time winner of the Max Bonham sportsman award at the Duke Charity Horse Show, and she was awarded the VHSA Andrew Montgomery Award in 2004.
Peggy Jones and Sandra Ruiz founded Sanmar in 1984. Since then, the pair has been training horse and rider and helping them meet their potential. They are widely respected by all who know them for their passion for and dedication to their horses and customers. Peggy and Sandra teach horses and riders in the hunters, jumpers, and equitations and offer boarding, training, showing, and sales services.
